Holiday Gift Guide for Adventure Tykes

Well, here we are again, a month away from Christmas. Ack! Have you started checking off items on your gift list or have you even made a list, yet? Yeah, I’m still searching for a pen and paper for my list, however, I have made this years list for you in case you are in need of some ideas for your adventurous tykes.

Here you go!

Balance Bike

Strider Balance Bike

This is a great Christmas or birthday present and really helps tykes learn to ride a bike. If you can’t hit a trail for an adventure, riding around the neighborhood can be an adventure of it’s own. I recommend: Strider Balance Bike. J-Man went from his Stider balance bike to a pedal bike without any problems and no training wheels when he was 3yrs old.

Deuter Kikki Backpack

Every tyke needs their own backpack and the Deuter Kikki Backpack is a perfect holiday gift. It’s super cute and fun, too. The side pockets keep snacks and treasures organized and a main compartment big enough for a jacket and a few essentials. If your tyke is in the market for a backpacking backpack I highly recommend the Climber by Deuter.

Full Moon Hike

Night time exploring is a must for every tyke and a headlamp provides hands-free light for exploration. Let your tyke customize a headlamp from Princeton Tec in their favorite colors.

Adventue Tyke snowshoeing

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this DucKsday snowsuit for J-Man. He stays dry, warm and comfortable in any of the elements. It’s not big and bulky like a lot of insulated suits and because of that he can move about without any problems. This is such a versatile suit. It can be worn for rain or snow. Here’s why I love DucKsday.

Julbo Sunglasses

They will always make the list because I believe they are important to protect your tykes eyes from sun damage. Fashion sunglasses that do not provide 100% UV-A/UV-B protection will do more damage to eyes than not wearing sunglasses at all. Here’s some detailed information on why sunglasses are important. Julbo has quality sunglasses ranging in sizes from infant to adults.

Here I am AGAIN, suggesting a camera. I think it’s so fun to give a tyke a camera and see what they capture, see what they think is worthy of photographing, and to see their perspective on an object. The camera doesn’t have to be fancy but I do recommend that it is waterproof and drop proof. Here’s the camera J-Man uses. He’s had this camera since March of 2012 and it’s still going strong.

Flow397 shirt

Tykes love to have graphics on their shirts and Flow397 has created some awesome shirts that relate to the outdoors. J-Man loves his Bear Tortugas shirt. One of the great things about Flow397 is for every sale they donate $3.97 to the National Park Service. What a wonderful way to support our National Parks.

Trekking Poles

Adventure Tyke crossing a stream

These have come in handy for J-Man while hiking, backpacking and maneuvering across rivers and creeks. They give stability while on uneven ground.

Jr. Rangerland National Parks Game

rangerland game

This is a fun game that the whole family can play. In this fun-filled game of color matching and exploration, players collect Explorer Cards as they journey to National parks throughout the United States. Creative Child Magazine’s Game of the Year Award for 2011.

Outdoor books

Books are great learning tools and can help tykes get excited about a particular outdoor activity. Here are some outdoor books we love:

  1. Such great suggestions! Bergen has sunglasses from Julbo and we love them–definitely worth the investment. When (age) did J-man start using the trekking poles?

  2. Great list. We were just talking about trekking poles so this is helpful.
We have a gift series going on over on our blog as well – http://www.familesgooutdoors.com

  3. I totally agree on the camera! We gave a V-tech camera to the kids when they were 2 and they still love it. It doesn’t take the most amazing photos, but it is virtually indestructible. We will upgrade when they’re a bit bigger. Snowshoes, sled and skates were a hit in recent years… this year, we’re giving them swanky ski goggles, hiking shoes, and already got them new downhill equipment so just little stuff like ski socks.

The Deuter packs are amazing; we have 2 of the smallest size and one of the 16 or 18L size (for school). Such good quality and fit.

    Love your list!

    • J-Man started out with the V-Tech camera and it was great. We definitely didn’t like the poor quality of photos so that’s why we upgraded. The Pentax is nearly indestructible, too. So far so good, anyways. :) And, yes, the Deuter packs are awesome! Sounds like the kids are getting some great stuff for Christmas.
