For most folks camping season is just around the corner. For us, Desert Rats, camping season has arrived. We already have our first camping trip under our belt with many many more already planned. J-Man can’t wait to go again. I’m not sure if he is more excited about camping in a tent or getting to eat s’mores. Either way, he loves camping and keeps asking when the next trip is. Soon! Very soon, Little Man!
Right now the temperatures are still a little cool at night and because I tend to be a cold sleeper I need a sleeping bag that will keep me warm. I get cold at night in the Summer so I’m not kidding when I say I NEED a warm sleeping bag. Pathetic, I know.
I have found the solution to my cold sleepless nights thanks to Big Agnes. I haven’t been cold once since we started using this sleeping bag and mattress pad combo.
” There is a place on the edge of town beside the river, where ski bums bed down two-by-two like cord-wood. Visions of powder turns dancing through their heads, all cozied up before their next big day on the mountain. This place is called Dream Island, a trailer park just downstream from the aromatic sulfur springs. “
This is the perfect bag and air mattress combo that fits all three of us comfortably. The self inflating foam core air mattress slides into a sleeve under the bag and we all stay toasty warm.
We’ve all slept in a double bag before and I have still gotten cold, but the Dream Island keeps me comfortably warm so I can stay sound asleep. The no-draft collar is a nice addition keeping the heat trapped in.
I love that the Hinman self inflating air mattress slides into a fabric sleeve on the bottom of the sleeping bag. This keeps the mattress in place and you don’t have to worry about rolling off of it at night. You can slide two standard sized air mattresses into the sleeve or one over-sized and long mattress. Because the Hinman air mattress is self inflating J-man was able to inflate it almost all the way.
The inside of the Dream Island bag is lined with a soft breathable cotton/polyester blend with stain resistant finish. It’s just like your sliding into a bed and they don’t stick to you or get bound up while you’re tossing and turning at night.
I’ve always dreaded camping in cold temperatures knowing that I would be uncomfortable and most likely have a horrible nights sleep or lack their of. Now I know that I won’t be cold at all and I’ll get a good nights sleep. It has made me eager to begin our camping trips earlier than usual and we have.
I will say that when the sleeping bag and air mattress are rolled up in their stuff sacks they are kinda, big but if it’s the only bag and mattress you are taking it’s not a big deal. Considering their size, it’s to be expected that they will be larger than individual bags and mattresses, just make space.
What are your tricks to staying warm while camping?
Thanks to Big Agnes for providing me with the sleeping bag and air mattress. All opinions and comments are my own.
